The history of Wassenberg dates back to the Middle Ages, when it was a fortified town with a castle. The castle, which was built in the 12th century, is one of the town's most striking landmarks and, together with the keep, is used as a cultural centre and hotel-restaurant. The town's other major sights include St George's Church, which dates back to the 13th century.
Wassenberg has a rich cultural heritage and is home to several museums, including the Museum of Local History, which presents the history of the town from prehistory to the present day. The museum also has exhibitions on local crafts and trade, such as weaving and pottery.
In addition to its cultural attractions, Wassenberg is surrounded by beautiful countryside, making it a favourite destination for outdoor enthusiasts. There are numerous hiking and cycling trails in the area. The vitality hiking trails, the Birgelen primeval forest and the well-developed cycle routes are particularly worth mentioning.
Overall, Wassenberg is a charming town with a rich history and culture, beautiful natural surroundings and plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities. It is definitely worth a visit for anyone interested in exploring the hidden treasures of the North Rhine-Westphalia region in Germany.
Participation in the "Katzensprung 2.0" project
We are delighted to announce that we are a proud participant in the Schwalm-Nette Nature Park's "Katzensprung 2.0" project. The aim of this exciting project is not only to offer our guests an unforgettable holiday, but also to protect our environment in a sustainable way.
As part of the project, we are already implementing a number of criteria that focus on sustainability, climate protection and regionality. But we are not resting on our laurels. On the contrary: we see it as our duty to fulfil even more criteria in the future and to intensify our commitment to a greener future. We are already working with solar panels on our roof and will soon be offering the option of using electric charging points directly in front of the hotel, which are powered directly by our solar panels.
We are convinced that small steps can lead to big changes. That is why we invite you to join us on this journey and work together towards a more sustainable future.
